Labor and Employment Legal Secretary
Los Angeles, CA Direct-Hire $30.00 - $45.00/hr Hybrid

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Legal Assistant to join our team and play a critical role in a unique, high-impact opportunity involving both system cleanup and ongoing litigation support. This role will begin with a deep dive into organizing and reconciling case information within Smokeball, ensuring all work is properly documented and aligned before transitioning into traditional Legal Assistant responsibilities. You'll work closely with attorneys to keep complex labor and employment matters moving forward while helping establish stronger systems and processes for long-term success. If you're a proactive, tech-savvy Legal Assistant who thrives in fast-paced environments and enjoys bringing order to complexity, this is a great opportunity to make a meaningful impact.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead initial cleanup efforts by organizing case data and ensuring all activity is accurately reflected in Smokeball
  • Manage calendaring, state e-filings, discovery, depositions, and day-to-day litigation support once cases are up to date
  • Collaborate closely with attorneys to advance plaintiff-side labor and employment cases, including terminations, discrimination, and wage & hour matters
  • Handle agency-related work involving EEOC, Department of Labor, and DFEH with precision and attention to detail
  • Demonstrate exceptional written communication skills, including drafting and reviewing legal documents with strong grammar and clarity
  • Serve as a highly organized, responsive communicator who can independently manage responsibilities in a fully remote setting
  • Bring 5+ years of Legal Assistant experience, with strong technical aptitude (Smokeball preferred) and the ability to quickly adapt to systems and processes
  • Mostly remote, but must be local to Los Angeles for on site meetings on an as needed basis

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, national origin, age, ancestry, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, marital status, disability, medical condition, genetic information, pregnancy, or military or veteran status. We consider all qualified applicants, including those with criminal histories, in a manner consistent with state and local laws, including the California Fair Chance Act, City of Los Angeles' Fair Chance Initiative for Hiring Ordinance, and Los Angeles County Fair Chance Ordinance.
